Acupuncture Treatment to Help Quit Smoking
|
Smoking is one of the leading causes of disease in America. Besides emphysema,
it is linked to cancer, heart attack, and stroke. These diseases that result from years of
smoking are killing thousands of Americans each year. And the health effects of
smoking account for billions of dollars spent on medical care and medications.
Yet, quiting smoking is still one of the most difficult things to do. This is because
smoking is a physical and psychological addiction. The body becomes dependent on
the toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke. And the mind becomes trained to need the
behavior of smoking as part of the daily routine or as a way to deal with stress and
anxiety.
The first step is to come to the realization that smoking is a health hazard. Smoking
has immediate effects - yellowing teeth, persistent cough, difficulty breathing. And puts
you at risk for lung failure, several types of cancer, and cardiovascular disease. A walk
through a few floors of the hospital will show the ravages of a pack a day habit.
The next step is to commit to quit. This means making a conscious decision to
abandon the smoking habit and taking all necessary means to accomplish that goal.
Supportive friends and family will be helpful in this process.
But the body is dependent on cigarettes and the cravings make it difficult to keep that
commitment. This is where acupuncture helps.

smoking.
Acupuncture curbs the cravings, eliminates the physiological dependence on
cigarettes, and reduces stress. The treatment program consists of a minimum of 6
sessions of acupuncture and in some cases an herbal supplement. Please call for more
information and to enroll for treatment.
